The Directorate of Culture undertakes and successfully implements various projects and schemes to carry out its mission, and also actively recognizes and encourages various cultural institutions. The scope of its work extends from wide-ranging activities such as execution of many plan schemes, disbursement of pension to indigent artists, pension to those employees who retired from selected cultural institutions, disbursement of grants, both plan and non plan, running into more than 100 crores of rupees to various organizations. In addition to that the Directorate oversees the construction of huge and elaborate Renaissance Cultural Complexes, one in each district, with a project cost of Rs. 700 crores aided by the KIIFB. The Directorate is conveniently situated in the heart of the city close to the precincts of the historical Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple. The iconic and highly ornate Ananthavilasam Palace which is the only one of its kind built by any rulers of erstwhile Travancore is where the Directorate is now housed.
The Directorate is headed by the Director. There are an Administrative/Accounts officer and two Deputy Directors to oversee the activities undertaken by the Directorate. One Senior Superintendent is the middle level officer who assists in the smooth conduct of the office business. There are three sections headed by one junior superintendent each for the sections namely
