The Department of Cultural publications was the precessor to the Directorate of Culture. The Publication Department was wound up and renamed as the Directorate of Culture in August 2005. The activities undertaken by the publication department is now entrusted with Kerala Sahithya Academi and the Kerala Language Institute.

To conserve, promote and disseminate art, literature, rituals and unique culture of Kerala.
